Constructing the Victorian Walking Skirt (2-Day Workshop)
May 16-17, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Create your own late-1890s "straight-to-bias" walking skirt in this two-day sewing workshop inspired by the iconic Gibson Girl silhouette. Participants will learn how to draft the skirt pattern directly onto fabric using their own measurements and discover which fabrics work best for this style of garment. Beginners are encouraged to start with plain muslin for their first attempt, which can later function as a petticoat.
Cost: $35 members, $50 nonmembers

Woodworking Workshop

Participants will create a charming small hanging box perfect for storing keys, mail and other everyday items. Led by renowned woodworkers Megan Fitzpatrick and Christopher Schwarz of Lost Art Press, this workshop is limited to just eight participants for a personalized experience. Materials will include either poplar or cherry wood. Cost is $30 for members and $40 for nonmembers. Family Crafting Through Time: Macramé Hanger

Travel back to the creative spirit of the 1970s during this hands-on family craft program at Behringer-Crawford Museum. Led by BCM Education Director Kim Gehring-Cook, participants will learn the basics of macramé while creating their own retro-style plant hanger to take home.This fun activity connects to BCM’s exhibit Treasures From the Attic: 250 Years of Fashion & Furniture, exploring how handmade décor and personal style reflected everyday life in different decades.Cost: Museum admission plus $10 material fee. This is for one craft per family. If additional craft supplies are desired, they must be ordered at the time of registration, at an additional fee of $10 each.
