What is freshART?
freshART is Behringer-Crawford Museum’s signature event and one of the region’s most unique celebrations of local creativity. For more than 30 years, freshART has invited artists of all ages and styles to Devou Park to capture its beauty in their own way.
Each September, their completed works are auctioned live at BCM in a festive evening of art, food, music and community spirit. Proceeds support the museum’s youth education initiatives.
How It Works
-
Stamp & Create: Artists begin by having their canvases officially stamped at BCM. They have 10 days to complete their artwork inspired by Devou Park or the surrounding area.
-
Locations: Artists work all overDevou Park, such as the Overlook, Veterans Memorial, Band Shell, Prisoner’s Lake and even indoors at the Golf Clubhouse.
-
Variety of Media: While paintings dominate, freshART has expanded to include wood carving, mixed media and other creative forms.
-
silentART: In addition to the live auction, a silent auction features works donated by regional artists, available for online bidding. (These are not "fresh," but previously created works)

Homeschool Programs
Homeschool Days@BCM
As part of our commitment to provide educational services for all students, BCM is excited to host the following events for homeschool students:
"Kentucky on Ice" January 18, 2017, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
$5 per person
Figuratively trekking through the last glacial period in Kentucky, students will learn about Ice Age geology and the great animals that once roamed the Ohio Valley. Students will handle and analyze a variety of real fossils uncovered from Big Bone Lick, including a wooly mammoth tooth! (Lower elementary students)
"Freedom Stations" February 22, 2017, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
$5 per person
Although slavery existed and thrived in America, not all Americans supported it. In fact, many brave individuals broke the law and helped to guide runaway slaves to their freedom in Canada. Students will hear the stories of daring Underground Railroad conductors, including Sojourner Truth, John Parker and Harriet Tubman, as well as many others who risked their lives to ensure freedom for all people. (Lower to upper elementary students)
"Harlan Hubbard" March 22, 2017, 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.
$5 per person
Be introduced to the life and art of Harlan Hubbard: a man dedicated to living in harmony with nature, creating art, playing music and writing literature while living on the fringe of society along the Ohio River. Students will be challenged to determine how art is influenced by the time, place and culture in which the work was created.
Students will create a work of art using Hubbard's paintings as their inspiration. (Primary to junior high students)
