Tuesdays, Sep. 3 & 17, 6:30 p.m.

Behringer-Crawford Museum is pleased to announce the next two sessions of its popular NKY History Hour series, featuring the history of the Covington/Northern Kentucky YMCA. The presentations will take place virtually on Tuesday, September 3, and Tuesday, September 17, 2024, and will be led by returning presenter Bryan McIntyre.

Part 1: Tuesday, September 3 – "The Covington/Northern Kentucky YMCA 1888-1939"
In this first session, McIntyre will take us back to the founding of the Covington YMCA in 1888, charting its growth and development through the years. From its early beginnings, the YMCA became a cornerstone of the community, offering a wide range of activities and programs that shaped the lives of countless Northern Kentuckians. McIntyre will highlight key milestones, including the construction of the new YMCA building at the southeast corner of Madison and Pike Streets in 1913, and the significant role the YMCA played during the First World War.

Part 2: Tuesday, September 17 – "The Covington/Northern Kentucky YMCA 1939-1987"
The second session will cover the years from 1940 to 1987, a period of continued growth and expansion. In 1964, the Covington YMCA expanded into the surrounding areas, becoming the YMCA of Northern Kentucky. McIntyre will discuss the challenges and triumphs of this era, culminating in the 1987 merger with the YMCA of Cincinnati and Hamilton County to form the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati.

Bryan McIntyre, known to many as “Lincoln,” has been a beloved figure at YMCA Camp Ernst since 1973. Although he jokes that he’s been at the camp since its founding in 1928, his connection to the YMCA runs deep. During the school year, McIntyre teaches English part-time at Northern Kentucky University, and in the summer, he immerses himself in camp life. As the "in-house camp historian," he presides over monthly Camp History Chat zoom calls and maintains the camp's documents for American Camp Association accreditation. McIntyre is also the author of Camp Ernst's 90th Anniversary History booklet and is currently working on the 100th Anniversary book for 2028.
